infrastructure

Established in 1998, our purpose built facility provides 24 hours a day, everyday of the year Data Centre operations. With no single point of failure and a fully scalable world-class infrastructure, we ensure maximum uptime and performance to our clients.

Teamed with quality staff that has been selected for their extensive industry knowledge and expertise, The Data Centre’s best of breed offerings are second to none. Our large customer base is a very strong endorsement of this quality and philosophy our company represents.

Geographic Location

  • Our Data Centre is situated on the outskirts of Melbourne CBD in the Southbank precinct of South Melbourne providing superb accessibility and anonymity. The dedicated data centre facility has been purposely designed to provide the utmost security and redundancy to ensure your services are continually protected and monitored.
  • K.A.S provides multi-layered security, ensuring your equipment is kept physically secure at all times. The buildings location is in South Melbourne, close to the CBD, yet separate and inconspicuous.

Monitoring

  • CCTV cameras are strategically located throughout the facility, recording 24x7x365. Access to secure areas is via swipe card, authorised by our computerised access-control system. On site security guards provide the next level of security. No visitor will be allowed access to the facility unless our client has given prior authorisation and without satisfactory proof of identity.

On-site tracking

  • K.A.S systems track the location of on-site visitors and personnel through our swipe-card access-control system. All doors are electronically locked, and in the event of a security emergency all doors can be locked out.

Server location

  • Our escorted data area contains industry standard 19" racks for housing customer equipment. Visitors to this area are escorted at all times. The next level of security is lockable cabinets, providing peace of mind to the customer that no one can gain access to their equipment. Finally the highest level of physical security is within a secure caged area. Open racks and/or lockable cabinets can be placed within a cage for utmost security and peace of mind.

Power

  • The site is equipped with dual 500kVA backup generators with 35 hours of diesel fuel at full load.
  • K.A.S has negotiated priority fuel supply contracts with multiple vendors for prompt refueling. The Generator system supplies power to the critical building system in the event of an extended power outage.
  • The data floor is supplied power via 3 x 150kVA Thycon NBPS units to multiple floor distribution boards.
  • All 45ru racks/cabinets are powered with 20-outlet power rails and can be fed from two separate power distribution boards with the addition of a second 20-outlet power rail, to facilitate servers equipped with redundant power supplies.
  • South Melbourne power grid location separate to City of Melbourne grid. An In building power substation - supplying 4000 AMPS N+1 UPS system supplies conditioned AC Power to the data centre data floors. The UPS batteries ensure that the load is maintained whilst the generator back up unit reaches design operational parameters to service the entire requirements of the data centre floor. K.A.S data centre has on site fuel storage to service the generator system running at full load for a period of approximately 32 hours. Supply contracts exist with fuel vendors to ensure ongoing requirements are meet.

Cooling

  • You can be reassured that the room conditions your equipment is housed in will be adequately cooled by our state of the art process cooling units.
  • The units are strategically positioned around the data areas to provide the most effective and efficient cooling; room conditions are kept at 20°c and 50% humidity.
  • All areas have redundancy built in to the cooling capacity in the event of a process cooler failure; room temperatures, humidity and equipment alarms are all monitored by our building automations system located in our manned Network Operations Centre (NOC).
  • The conditioned air is dual filtered once upon entering the building and then continually re-filtered by the process coolers.
  • K.A.S' IDC is protected with a fully automatic dual-alarmed FM 200 fire suppression system.
  • The FM 200 system is armed and deployed with a dual zone photoelectric smoke detection system mounted both on the ceiling and in the cool air plenums throughout the data centre.
  • The data centre also utilises the state of the art Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA), which uses laser technology to sample the air and provides the earliest possible warning of a potential fire situation.
  • The VESDA system will warn our onsite staff who will investigate the cause of the alarm and will deal with any potential trouble spot using one of the multiple hand held gas fire suppression extinguishers or by manually activating the FM200 system.
  • As with all K.A.S' building infrastructure the fire systems are maintained to Australian standards and by third party specialist contractors.
  • 12 Process cooling units (PCU's) provide ample cooling throughout K.A.S' data centre's data floor. K.A.S data centre maintains redundant backup PCU's that allow us to maintain a constant return air temperature of 20 degrees C and 50% humidity to ensure stable server operation. K.A.S data centre's raised floor provides cooling directly to all racks, cabinets and cages throughout its data centre.

Security

  • 2nd Floor secure location.
  • Security Guards are on duty to monitor all access points to the building.
  • Security cameras continually monitor the entire facility.
  • Monitored alarms on all ingress points.
  • Card access technology tracks and records all door entry and exit transactions.
